Today we are excited to celebrate the half-way point of our expanded fundraising campaign that we launched in April and we are taking this moment to look back over the remarkable journey so far this year, and the pathway into the future.
As you will know, this year has been transformative for the Being Peace project. More than a million pounds of fresh pledges came into the project at the start of the year, together with renewed and enthusiastic support from our monastic brothers and sisters in Plum Village.
This has allowed us to come together around the vision for a substantial centre in the UK which, from the very beginning, will be able to offer months of monastic teaching every year, alongside a full programme of year-round, lay-run retreats. This is all with the clear aspiration to gradually grow a full-scale, multifold community with a monastery at its heart that can flourish for generations.
Half – way to reaching the target
Our current campaign, running until mid-October this year, has the aim of establishing the clear starting funds that can allow our property team to make the best possible purchase: land and property that is as beautiful and accessible as possible, and that is also within the financial reach of the community and clearly sustainable into the future.
We have identified £3.7m as the threshold that can start to allow this beautiful vision above to become established reality, and – at the mid-point of this campaign – we are now over half-way to achieving this goal:
Over the coming months we will have much more to share with you:
- More practices recorded for us by our Plum Village monastic friends
- Contributions and interviews on the spirit of music, play and deep ecology within the Plum Village tradition
- Many touching messages, aspirations and personal journeys from within our UK community
- Messages of support and talks from internationally renowned figures, such as Christiana Figueres and Satish Kumar.
We are looking forward to connecting with you at any of our upcoming events!
Please continue to share about this project
as widely and enthusiastically as you can, so that we give ourselves every chance possible for a beautiful location, property and land for this new centre to be born into. And also check out all of the options in the “How can I help?” page of the website for ways to contribute that can ripple out beautifully long into the future.
We look forward to continuing together!
