Continuing Thay’s Legacy: Mindfulness, Community and the Love for Mother Earth

Meeting our fundraising goal isn’t just about securing a property. The Being Peace Practice Centre will continue Thay’s legacy, creating a lasting social and environmental impact for the community and beyond. In this post, we highlight the environmental and ecological significance of Abenhall and share more about the Happy Farm.

In the short video below, Mick McEvoy shares insights on healing, transformation, inclusion, and regeneration drawn from the practice of working at the Happy Farm in Plum Village, helping us envision how the Happy Farm at Being Peace can contribute to the healing of the land, individuals, and the collective community.

Rooted in Deep Ecology

The Being Peace Practice Centre will be a living example of mindfulness in action, deeply committed to ecological stewardship:

🌱 Rewilding – Restoring large areas of the 54-acre site to create a sanctuary for wildlife

🍏 The Happy Farm – A future organic farm embodying mindful, regenerative culture

🌍 Sustainability at Heart – A commitment to ecological responsibility in every aspect of the centre

‘So many people are pouring themselves into this challenge of the climate and ecological emergencies, disconnection from each other as well as disconnection from the natural world.  One of the gifts that Thich Nhat Hanh has offered the world is that we can take the practice into any element of daily life. The cultivation of some of our own food at this time of such difficulty on the planet – there is this potential to do something very simple. (…) To eat and cultivate own food. To do that as guests at Being Peace in the UK is a beautiful potential to reconnect people with the Living Earth.’

Help bring this vision to life

Abenhall can be ready to welcome retreatants already this autumn—but it will not happen without the support from our community.

To secure this site and make these retreats a reality, we need to raise £1 million this spring. Your support will help us create a lasting home for Plum Village in the UK.

Together, we go as a river.
Thank you for walking this path with us.
