Dear Friend,

In this week’s video, one of our Being Peace Trustees, Rehena Harilall, shares eloquently about just how central the work of peace and reconciliation is to the Being Peace project.

Earlier this year Rehena co-organised – with friends in the PVUK and Quaker community and the input of many faith voices – the silent “Peace is Every Step” walk in the heart of our capital, to embody together the spirit and practice of peace and to offer this to the world on the second anniversary of Thich Nhat Hanh’s passing:

We know that our world is suffering – with deep injustices, the destruction of life and more than one hundred wars and armed conflicts worldwide. The challenges are profound. This Peace Walk, and the Being Peace Practice Centre itself, are all expressions of our wish to continue Thich Nhat Hanh’s life work to bring people and communities together in ways that can support real and lasting understanding, healing, transformation, reconciliation and a just and sustainable peace.

Rehena, who grew up in Apartheid South Africa, shares:

It was the energy of Thich Nhat Hanh, my own personal journey from where I was to cultivating peace, and also the ancestors that I come from – Nelson Mandela, Desmond Tutu – who have worked ceaselessly for peace.

This was a stand of solidarity for what we believe in… all our faiths aim for us to establish an ethical framework for us to live in peace, to live in harmony.

For me, the inspiration of walking in silence was making sure that our heart can be listened to; that in the silence we can really hear the cry of our hearts connecting to one another for peace, for justice, for reconciliation and for compassion.

This work needs all of the resources and energy that we can bring to it. With the Being Peace project, our intention is to offer another doorway to support the personal and collective transformation towards a more peaceful, loving and nourishing world – for our generation and for all who come after.

For peace in ourselves, and for peace in the world.

Walk With Me

Silent Walking Meditation for Peace

23rd June, 3pm – 5pm Gathering in Parliament Square

On the 23rd June we will have an opportunity to come together and bring the energy of embodied peace to central London and silently walk for nonviolence, reconciliation and peace.

Please join us, people of faiths and none, as we move together in silence to remember people killed in war, as we call for the cessation of killing, for nonviolence, reconciliation and a just peace. The peaceful coexistence of those on opposing sides is intertwined with one another. Our peace is interconnected. We have a shared commitment to live in peace and harmony in the world.
